FIDEM Foundation is organising its first International Women’s Day Conference on the 8th of March bringing together leading experts on gender issues, education, employment, domestic violence and law enforcement. This empowering event will also feature a special address from the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola.

International Women’s Day is an annual global event that calls on a collective effort to drive gender parity, #EmbraceEquity and strive for a gender equal world, free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination.

FIDEM Foundation has established its first International Women’s Day Conference with the primary intention to educate and empower our children, women and the whole of society on the importance of eradicating gender-based prejudice.

“Our work incorporates many different aspects of support and access to education for women and adolescent girls,” explains FIDEM founder Dr Sabine Agius Cabourdin. “We believe education is the key to overcoming gender inequality. Education empowers women to break free of abuse and become financially independent. It is also the foundation on which the social pillars of respect, inclusivity and equality stand.”

Globally, one in three women have suffered abuse in their lifetime. FIDEM believes this is unacceptable and its goal is to enact change. “We know we have the power to change this horrific statistic. It is not just a moral imperative but an economic one too,” adds Dr Agius Cabourdin.

The International Women’s Day Conference aims to launch a nationwide debate to explore how the transformative power of education can stamp out gender-based prejudice and promote a healthier society and economy.

A number of leading experts in the fields of sociology, education, business, employment and law enforcement will discuss institutional and national efforts to improve access to education, workplace inclusivity and equality. The conference will also feature a number of women survivors of domestic abuse who have been supported by FIDEM and are now living a new financially independent life thanks to retraining or further education.
